Shaun Bartlett lauds impressive home record after Nedbank Cup win
Cape Town Spurs coach Shaun Bartlett has credited the club’s fans for their backing following the 3-0 win against Baroka in the Nedbank Cup last 32 round.
Spurs have stretched their wins at home to nine straight matches in all competitions. The winning streak dates back to October 2022, when they lost 1-0 to JDR Stars.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Bartlett alluded that it has always been their plan to make their home ground a slaughterhouse.
FANS BACK SPURS TO NEDBANK CUP LAST 16
“I have said it before that was the intention from the beginning of the season. In order to compete at any level, if you want to win the Championship, you have to win the home games and then see what you can get from home,” he said.
“So we will continue to work hard. I think I have said it before; the 12th man is definitely the fans. They drive us, motivate us when things are going a bit down, and so far, it’s going well.
“The other pleasing factor for me is that we don’t concede. I think it’s about six games now that we have not conceded, so again, when you are organised and have structure, you don’t concede, we will always go to the other side and score goals, and I think that’s what we have been working on hard,” added the former Bafana Bafana star.
SHAUN BARTLETT IMPRESSED WITH THE SQUAD DEPTH
“The pleasing factor for me is the depth of the squad at this present time. I think I have my Satisfaction as far as players coming in, we made 10 changes, and we gave players who have been playing for a while opportunities.
“You could see the last 10 minutes they were cramping, but there were anxious moments. Let us not fool ourselves. It was three nil, but it could have been a different story, so I think those are a few things that we need to work on. But we are into the next round at the end of the day.”
