The ‘many reasons’ Daine Klate cites for Chippa’s slow start

Chippa United head coach Daine Klate thinks there are many reasons his side are struggling to get desired results.

This comes after a disastrous evening for the Chilli Boys, who succumbed to a 3-1 defeat against the in-form Royal AM at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday.

Klate blamed his misfiring strikers, lack of poor communication at the back and how his troops applied themselves, especially in the first half.

While that still might be the case, the new man in charge remains confident, citing that they will take the positives from this match and return to the drawing board.

“First half, I think we were poor. I don’t think we applied ourselves properly. I think Royal AM was the better team on the day. We conceded two goals because we had a lack of communication, but we came back in the second half, and we were much more positive putting front foot,” the 37-year-old mentor told the media.

“The application, the desire and the intensity we played in the first half were nowhere near good enough, and that hurt us a lot.

“Obviously, we took positives from this game, and that’s how we ended the game because that’s the way we need to apply ourselves from the first whistle. The goal that we scored in the crucial time is going to give them relief and learn from our mistakes as we got another game on Sunday, and we will take it from there.”

The recent run has come after a 1-all draw against SuperSport United last weekend away from home.

While he may still improve the players moving forward, the former Orlando Pirates midfielder did admit that it’s not going to be easy as they are still trying to find the right combination given the fact that the team has a lot of new faces. It may take longer for the players to gel.

“It’s a new team with lots of new signings, and we are still trying to find the chemistry and the perfect combination of what is going to work for us and what won’t work for us. Everyone is still going to get a chance to play and prove themselves.“

Chippa will play their next game against the Buccaneers on Sunday, 14 August, at Orlando Stadium. The kick-off is at 15:00 in the afternoon.
