John Maduka rejoins Royal AM
The Malawian coach John Maduka has rejoined Royal AM after being unattached for the past two months.
The 52-year-old coach was shown the exit door by Maritzburg United in November following a string of poor results. He was replaced by Fadlu Davids who also returned for the second spell at Team of Choice.
It was Maduka who was in charge in the dugout when Thwihli Thwahla were red-hot last season and is expected to turn things around again.
However, he surprisingly elected to dump them when he was approached by the club’s provincial rivals Maritzburg.
The Pietermaritzburg-based club had just axed Ernst Middendorp at the end of the previous season.
According to the reports, Maduka’s sudden resignation was due to ill-treatment he got from some management members.
Before he left, Maduka secured Royal AM a CAF Confederation Cup spot after he helped the club to finish in the third position in the DStv Premiership table.
Meanwhile, at Maritzburg, things didn’t turn out as he expected as the results were just under par.
In the 13 matches that he oversaw, he only managed two wins, drew five times, and suffered six defeats.
CAN MADUKA REVIVE ROYAL AM?
This season, Royal AM have only collected six wins from 19 matches in all competitions, drawing three and suffering 10 defeats.
They lost to Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 quarter-final and all other losses came from the DStv Premiership matches.
Taking into account how tight the standings are, Maduka can still be of help in leading the side to finish in a respectable position again.
AM currently sit 12th on the table with 21 points after 18 league games.
