Gavin Hunt reveals one vital element lacking in Thapelo Maseko’s game
SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has backed rising star Thapelo Maseko to get better as a player as time goes by, while also revealing the one element lacking in the attacker’s game.
Maseko produced a Man of the Match performance in the DStv Premiership Tshwane derby against Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday night.
The 19-year-old came close to scoring on more occasions, including hitting a post in the dying minutes of the match as SuperSport lost 1-0 against their rivals, Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
Maseko is a SuperSport DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) graduate and he was under the watchful eye of coach Thabo September.
He has so far featured 20 times in all competitions since his promotion to the senior team at the beginning of the 2021/22 season.
THAPELO MASEKO WILL GET BETTER
“I think the only thing that is lacking in Maseko’s game is obviously goals,” said Hunt after the 1-0 defeat.
“I mean every game that he has played he has had chances you know. He scored against Sundowns the last time so in every game that he has played he has done well.
“I am still trying to define his role a little bit because we obviously don’t have the squad. We have to move him to different areas.
“He has played left-back for us this season already, so it is what it is.
“But he will come and he will get better and so are the other young ones,” added Hunt.
HOW HUNT TRIES TO USE YOUNGSTERS TO IMPROVE SUPERSPORT
Hunt says there are still more young players set to be introduced at the highest level.
“The most important thing is that we got to improve on where we are and obviously the younger players are coming through. A few didn’t come on tonight (against Mamelodi Sundowns) but that will come.
“We have to fish in that market. So, we will try and make the team better. Make the squad better, which I am trying every day and that’s all you can do.”
