Kaizer Chiefs announce new partnership with Polokwane municipality
Kaizer Chiefs and Polokwane municipality have confirmed a long-term partnership that will see the Soweto giants utilise the new Peter Mokaba Stadium for the next three years in the province of Limpopo.
Although, the FNB Stadium in Soweto remains Chiefs’ main home venue, they have now adopted Polokwane as their alternative venue.
WHY KAIZER CHIEFS OPTED TO RETURNS TO POLOKWANE
This is the second time Chiefs take their matches in Polokwane. They did the same between the 2011 and 2015 seasons.
The announcement was made in Polokwane on Friday ahead of the DStv Premiership match between Chiefs and Royal AM on Sunday.
Polokwane executive mayor, John Mpe has described the re-union as a reason to celebrate.
Chiefs will start their Polokwane journey with a DStv Premiership match against Royal AM.
“It is indeed a special day for the City of Polokwane to welcome back Kaizer Chiefs at home,” said Mpe.
“As they said, Kaizer Chiefs is home away from home. Their supporters in their great numbers reside in this side of the country in Limpopo.
“We are happy to announce that Polokwane reached a three season agreement with Kaizer Chiefs to have them back here in our City as their alternative home.
“This is our drive as we have mentioned to promote sports tourism, grow the local economy and ensure maximum and effective utilization of our facilities that must be utilised to stimulate our economy.
“This reunion calls for a celebration for the sports loving people of Polokwane,” added Mpe.
CHIEFS SATISFIED WITH POLOKWANE NEGOTIATIONS
Chiefs marketing and commercial director Jessica Motaung has applauded the municipality for the smooth negotiations.
“It’s been wonderful to sit with you and negotiate this and to have a commitment for three years,” she said during the announcement.
“We are not doing a short term engagement, it is a commitment for three years. We want to be here in Polokwane, engaging with our supporters. But also the City of Polokwane to grow.
“The province of Limpopo is very important for us, economic benefits that we know our brand can bring and we are asking other brands and partners who are part of our stable to make sure that they make investments here. So we look forward to the facilities that we have here.”
