Morgan Mmamila hints at new role for ‘Skhwama Sama Tariyana’ at Chippa

Chippa United head coach Morgan Mammila has hinted at a new role for dribbling wizard Tshepo “Skhwama Sama Tariyana” Matete at the Eastern Cape outfit.

Tshepo Matete has been training with the club for a while with the hope of securing a deal. The 31-year-old was last in the books of Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) until the end of last season.

A move to the Chilli Boys would mean Matete reunites with head coach Morgan Mmamila. Mmamila gave Matete his first professional contract when he was the CEO of Baroka FC in 2015 after being discovered playing at Kasi festive tournaments.

Speaking to FARPost on Wednesday, Mmamila confirmed Matete was training with the club, but nothing was finalized yet.

“He is here. There is a possibility that he might sign. I know his strong points, and I know what he can do. I know what he has done before,” he said.

“The thing is, I gave him a contract (at Baroka) because I know what he can do. If you remember very well, he scored on his debut game. We ended up gaining promotion.

“Even now, there is a new role that he is going to play here. So it’s just for him to work harder so that he can get the contract,” said Mmamila.

ON THE PROSPECT OF SIGNING MORE PLAYERS

“To be honest, we are covered in all positions, and we can’t wait to resume with the matches,” added Mmamila.

“We have not released anyone. You can’t fix it if it’s not broken. We can only add one or two players maximum. Not because it’s a must but because sometimes you just have to freshen up the squad.”

Chippa will resume their DStv Premiership programme with an away fixture against Stellenbosch on Friday, 30 December. They currently sit sixth on the log table with 10 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
