Swallows set to raid Maritzburg United for a striker

DStv Premiership side Swallows FC are on the verge of signing Zimbabwean centre-forward Tawanda Macheke, who has been on the books of Maritzburg United.

Macheke seems not to be in coach Fadlu Davids’ long term plans owing to his below par statistics.

He enjoyed a decent spell when he joined the Team of Choice in January 2022, then under Ernst Middendorp.

This season, the DStv Premiership has proved to be a tough terrain for the gangly forward who has no goal in the 12 matches he featured.

However, it appears Swallows FC consider him as a viable option for the current campaign.

WHAT MACHEKE’S AGENT SAID

Macheke’s agent, Gibson Mahachi told FARPost that negotiations with the Dube Birds are at an advanced stage.

“We are finalizing the deal with Swallows. Anytime from today [Monday], I will be able to provide finer details of this development,” said Mahachi.

“He needs a new challenge and we are working on that. We are working on it.

Maritzburg are open to cut ties with the centre-forward has one-year remaining on his contract.

He signed a two-year contract when he joined the Pietermaritzburg based side.

The former Dynamos striker is one of the eleven Zimbabwean players remaining in the top South African football ranks.

Of late, Zimbabwean players have struggled to break into the lucrative DStv Premiership.

UPDATE ON KUDA MAHACHI

Meanwhile the agent took time to update on Kudakwashe Mahachi’s current situation.

He said: “Like I said earlier, our player [Kudakwashe Mahachi] is working on getting his full fitness back.

“He is no longer training with Maritzburg United in Pietermaritzburg. Right now he is in Johannesburg where is training as we continue monitoring him.

“Right now we haven’t reached a position on where he will return but there are offers on the table,” he added.
