Why Mamelodi Sundowns cut victory celebrations short
"We got 24 hours [to celebrate victories or breaking records]."
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has explained why his team doesn’t take too much time to celebrate a victory or breaking a record.
Sundowns are currently in an incredible run of form in the league. Bafana ba Style have won 16 matches in a row in all competitions.
That’s 15 in the DStv Premiership and one in a Nedbank Cup last 32 game on Tuesday against Richards Bay FC.
RULANI MOKWENA EXPLAINS…
According to Mokwena, their celebrations on victories or breaking records are cut short because as the two achievements doesn’t win them trophies.
“We got 24 hours [to celebrate victories or breaking records], sometimes a little bit less because already we are training on the pitch,” Mokwena told the media.
“[At Sundowns] we don’t have the time to celebrate victories, to celebrate records because there’s no trophies with any of those.
“We celebrate trophies because that’s what we here for. We here to win to trophies and not to make records or to win games but trophies.
“That means you have to do more, you have to be consistent with your performances, you have to work very hard to stay grounded and continue to try to push and be better every single day.”
FOCUS NOW ON CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL
Masandawana don’t have time to celebrate progressing to the next round of the Nedbank Cup.
They now shift focus to the CAF Champions League as they are preparing to take on Al-Hilal Club of Sudan in their first group stage match.
The Tshwane giants who made winning the Champions League their mandate this season will be aiming to improve from last season’s poor performance.
They were knocked out of the competition by Angolan giants Petro de Luanda in the quarter finals.
Kickoff on Saturday 11 February at Loftus Verfeld Stadium is at 3pm.
