Why Royal AM players were happy to see John Maduka back

"That's why you saw them, they are free, they know how I do things."

Royal AM coach John Maduka has revealed the players reaction upon his reappointment at the KwaZulu-Natal side.

John Maduka returned to Royal AM following a short stint with rivals Maritzburg United.

He has been in charge for two matches since his return which is the DStv Premiership win against Golden Arrows and a Nedbank Cup last 32 victory against Cape Town City on Sunday.

FAMILIAR TERRITORY FOR COACH JOHN MADUKA

Speaking after the win against the Citizens, Maduka says his second stint at the club was all but continuation.

“They were very happy to see me because most of them I worked with before,” said Maduka.

“So when they saw me coming; that I was the one that was coming to take over, they were very happy because we did well together last season, they knew that it was more of a continuation from last season.

“That’s why you saw them, they are free, they know how I do things. I know what to expect from them, they know what to expect from me as well.”

ON ROYAL AM SEAONS AMBITIONS

The 52-year-old insists their target is a top four finish and they also want to go all the way in the Nedbank Cup.

“We are an ambitious team. Last season we did very well and we want to take the team to where it belongs. We strongly believe in the players we have, the management, the staff, the coach, technical team and everyone we can be able to take this team that’s obviously on top, talking about the league.

“But also in a competition like this, we want to go all the way but for us to go all the way we have to take it one game at a time.

“We don’t know whom we will be playing against  in the last 16 but we will take it one game at a time. But it is also a competition that we would love to go all the way.”

“We tried last season, we lost in the semifinals so this time we would love for us to go all the way but also at the same time in the League, if we can be top four I think it would be good for us.”
