The real reason behind Joseph Molangoane’s departure from City Rovers

Joseph Molangoane’s agent has revealed the real reason behind his client’s departure from Platinum City Rovers a few weeks ago without signing a contract with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side.

This publication reported a week ago that former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Molangoane left City Rovers without touching the ball.

The veteran midfielder had been training with City Rovers for the past three months. He joined them from SAFA Limpopo ABC Motsepe League side Sunrise FC, where he played as a player/coach after being released by Marumo Gallants at the end of the last campaign.

City Rovers mentor Tlou Segolela confirmed to this website that the deal did not materialise due to ‘office matters’.

“I am not in a position to divulge a lot regarding him [and why he left]. But I can confirm that he is no longer training with us at the moment. But it’s an office matter,” Segolela told FARPost.

JOSEPH MOLANGOANE’S AGENT ON PLATINUM CITY ROVERS DEPARTURE

This publication reached out to Molangoane’s agent, Thabiso Thobane, who revealed what went wrong.

Thobane said that the main problem was that both parties couldn’t agree in terms of salaries, hence the negotiations collapsed.

“Well, what really happened is that they thought Joseph is going to be free in terms of the salary prices, thinking he’s desperate to play,” said Thobane in an interview with FARPost.

“So, we never agreed in terms of the salary, which was the minimum salary for a player who plays in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. That was the only problem, actually.

“He trained for two if not three months with them and played a lot of friendlies with them. We gave them all the clearance and other necessary documents, but they didn’t register him.”

Thobane continued: “So, he ended up saying, ‘Look, I cannot stay here and not play. Let me go back where I can keep myself busy.”

As things stand, Molangoane is back at Sunrise FC, where he continues to serve as a player/coach.
