Arthur Zwane reveals Kaizer Chiefs’ goals for remainder of season

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has revealed the club’s goals for the remainder of the season.

It’s fair to say, it will be difficult for Amakhosi to reel in Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Premiership title race.

Already, many have declared Masandawana the league champions, having opened a 16-point gap at the top of the table.

Chiefs, who have played 17 league games, are 22 points behind Bafana Ba Style, who’re sitting at the summit of the league table with 46 points after 18 games.

Zwane says their efforts will be directed towards achieving the CAF Champions League spot and winning Nedbank Cup.

ARTHUR ZWANE REVEALS CHIEFS TARGETS FOR THE SEASON’S SECOND ROUND

“We really want to go and play in the Champions League next season,” Zwane told the media at the FNB Stadium.

“I tasted it when I was part of the team as an assistant coach two seasons ago.

“So, I want to go back there, I think that will help our boys to grow. That will help our players as well to know how it’s like to compete at that level.

“Because some of these players must come back and represent the country in the international level.

“So it’s equally important for us to participate at that level. We’ll push for the second spot if we can’t get anything. The second spot is realistic.

“The team hasn’t been winning cups for many years.

“Nedbank Cup…we’ll give our utmost best as well to make sure that we go all the way and win it if we can.”

CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AND NEDBANK CUP TO PLAY FOR

Amakhosi last took part in the champions League during the 2020/21 season where they reached the final and faced Al Ahly.

The Glamour Boys, unfortunately, suffered a 3-0 loss to the Egyptian giants.

They will have to finish second in order to get a spot in the competition next season. They are currently sixth and six points behind second-placed Richards Bay FC.

Meanwhile, they last won the Nedbank Cup in 2013 when they downed SuperSport United. In 2019, they reached the final and lost to TS Galaxy who were still competing in the second tier at the time.

Amakhosi will begin their Nedbank Cup journey away to Maritzburg United in the round of 32 on 10 February.
