Former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates star Teko Modise has singled out the Kaizer Chiefs youngster who has impressed him.

Chiefs have promoted a handful of young players from their DStv Diski Challenge side to the first team.

Amakhosi have seemingly taken the approach to build a team around youngsters under head coach Arthur Zwane.

Despite struggling to find a consistent winning formula, Chiefs are bringing the best out of academy graduates.

Chiefs suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss to AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium in the DStv Premiership on Friday night.

Nonetheless, Modise has singled out the young Chiefs player who impressed him.

WHO HAS IMPRESSED TEKO MODISE?

“There’s definitely something interesting about Wandile Duba’s game. I hope he reaches his truest potential,” Modise wrote on Twitter.

The 40-old retired star made 342 overall career appearances, scoring 39 goals and contributing 52 assists.

Modise was part of the Mamelodi Sundowns team that won the CAF Champions League final in 2016. They achieved the feat under the guidance of Pitso Mosimane.

Amongst players who have been promoted to the Chiefs’ senior team in recent times is Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Happy Mashiane, Samkelo Zwane, Mduduzi Tshabalala, Keletso Sifama, Wandile Duba and Njabulo Blom who recently left the Soweto giants to join US side St Louis City SC.

WHEN DUBA GAINED PROMINENCE

Duba gained prominence in the Diski Challenge. He was even crowned Most Improved Player and Attacking Player of the Season in the 2022 DDC awards.

Meanwhile, Chiefs have won seven games, drawn three while losing six times after 16 games played in the league. They are currently positioned fourth on the log with 24 points accumulated.

Chiefs will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they face Sundowns next Saturday at FNB Stadium.
