Top official quits Orlando Pirates
A top official at DStv Premiership giants Orlando Pirates has quit his positon, the club has confirmed in a media statement.
Pirates’ Administration Manager Floyd Mbele has resigned from his position at the club.
The announcement comes just a month before the curtain comes down on the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.
FLOYD MBELE QUITS PIRATES
“Orlando Pirates has accepted the resignation of the club’s Administration Manager, Mr Floyd Mbele. The Club Management wishes him the best in his future endeavours,” the club said in a statement shared on all its platforms.
Mbele renewed ties with Pirates in August 2013 after a spell away from the club. He had held the same position before leaving the club in 2011.
When he returned in 2013, he replaced Senzo Mazingiza [now Mbatha], who, at the time, was taking a job as Platinum Stars’ general manager.
Interestingly, Mbele previously worked at the now-defunct Dikwena.
At Pirates, his administrative manager job entailed overseeing the club’s day-to-day running.
Since Mbele’s return to the club, they have won the Nedbank Cup [2014] and two MTN8 Cup titles [2020 & 2022].
NEDBANK QUARTERFINAL
In the 2021/22 season, the Buccaneers reached the final of the CAF Confederation Cup, losing to Morocco’s RS Berkane.
Mbele was part of the club when they won the treble during the 2010/11 season.
This season, the Soweto giants are in the running for second place in the DStv Premiership.
Pirates will play their last game in the league on 20 May 2023 against Cape Town City at home.
They are also in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup, where they will face Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
The Nedbank quarterfinal Soweto derby clash is set for 6 May 2023 at the FNB Stadium.
