Wayde Jooste close to Fadlu Davids reunion at Maritzburg
Former Orlando Pirates defender Wayde Jooste has resurfaced at Maritzburg United and could soon reunite with Fadlu Davids.
Davids was on Monday announced as the club’s new coach before overseeing his first session.
Maritzburg, who are at the basement of the DStv Premiership table after a difficult start to the season, returned to training early after a short break.
FIFA WORLD CUP BREAK
Several PSL teams have given players extended breaks with the local league on recess until 31 December for the FIFA World Cup.
The Pietermaritzburg outfit decided to have players return early “to allow Davids an extended period in which he can work with the squad during the World Cup break.”
FARPost can reveal that the 31-year-old was part of the players addressed by Davids on Monday.
“Wayde Jooste joined the players that reported for duty on Monday. He wants to impress Fadlu, so he requested to come and train with the team. They worked well together at Orlando Pirates,” the source told FARPost.
WAYDE JOOSTE TRAINED WITH SUPERSPORT
For the past couple of months, Jooste trained with SuperSport, but the club decided against signing him. Jooste parted ways with Pirates at the end of the season after making 39 appearances after joining them in 2020 from Highlands Park.
SuperSport opted not to sign him because right-back was not a priority position. They have the likes of Iqraam Rayners, Guily Manziba and Ghamphani Lungu playing on the right.
David held another session on Tuesday, 15 November, in the morning, and Jooste was present.
It remains to be seen whether the club will give him a chance as they look to beef up their squad ahead of the second round.
Davids will know the experience Jooste could bring to his Maritzburg side. Together at Pirates, they won the MTN8 trophy in 2020 before reaching the CAF Confederation Cup final.
