AmaTuks coach Motaung lauds Rodney Ramagalela’s impact

Newly signed University of Pretoria [AmaTuks] striker Rodney Ramagalela opened his scoring account during the 2-1 win against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) on Tuesday.

Ramagalela has joined AmaTuks on a deal until the end of the season. The 34-year-old had not played competitive football for over 18 months until he made his debut this past weekend.

On Tuesday, the former Mamelodi Sundowns marksman netted his first goal for the Motsepe Foundation Championship side in Thohoyandou. It was also a winner for the University of Pretoria side that had not won in their previous eight matches in all competitions.

WHY AMATUKS BROUGHT IN RODNEY RAMAGALELA

“We have brought in Rama for that; he is a poacher in front of goals, so he is still going to score for us,” said head coach Tlisane Motaung after the match.

“He comes from a long layoff due to an injury, and there is also the age factor which we have to manage. That’s why it is difficult for us to play him for 90 minutes at this stage.

“What a professional. Even at training, he and I communicate now and then. He is a true professional who is very disciplined and focused,” added Motaung.

“He has respect towards me and the game and adds a lot of value to these boys. That’s why we have brought him in.”

MORE PLAYERS AS THE SECOND ROUND BEGINS

AmaTuks have also brought in other players alongside Ramagalela, including his former teammate at Black Leopards, Isaac Masia. Former Baroka striker Tristan Nikitaridis and Siphamandla Ncanana from Richards Bay have also been roped in.

“It’s important to add experience if we want to challenge ourselves. Our objective is to challenge this thing, and at this stage, you need some experience to assist you.

“If you look at it, we still have 16 games to go, and 16 games, if my maths is correct, is 58 points. At this stage, we need experience more than anything.”
