Why Knox Mutizwa is the most underrated striker in the DStv Premiership

Forwards in the lucrative DStv Premiership tend to get praise and abuse in almost equal measure despite their varying fortunes.

But there are others like Golden Arrows forward Knox Mutizwa who are starved of the massive amounts of recognition they deserve.

Simply put, one man’s Peter Shalulile could be another man’s Lazarous Kambole.

What perhaps makes Mutizwa underrated is his team’s current position on the DStv Premiership log standings where they are 12th.

The Vusi Vilakazi coached-side is also considered a minnow looking at how they have fared over the last seasons.

HOW MUTIZWA HAS FARED FOR GOLDEN ARROWS

However, Mutizwa has managed to stay consistent and upbeat in his team’s adversity since joining in January 2017.

At the moment, he is Golden Arrows’ mainstay in the current campaign, emerging as their only reliable goal-getter.

The Zimbabwean International currently sits on six goals after 22 rounds of matches.

He is three goals behind pacesetters Bradley Grobler and Shalulile who have nine goals each.

Abafana Bes’thende lost 2-1 to SuperSport on Sunday, which left them just four points above the drop-zone.

Zakhele Lepasa scored his maiden goals, a brace, for the SuperSport in either halves of the match to power Gavin Hunt’s team to victory.

And it was Mutizwa who scored Golden Arrows’ consolation goal.

Mutizwa has scored in four of their last five games, including a famous brace that helped them beat Kaizer Chiefs last month.

Golden Arrows may have been a pale shadow of themselves this season but the 29-year-old has held fort so well for the Durban-based side.

The former Highlanders star recently broke Mabhuti Khenyeza’s club record to become Golden Arrows all-time goal-scorer.

All in all, he has 56 league goals to his name in 184 appearances.

Despite Golden Arrows’ mixed fortunes this season, Mutizwa is undoubtedly one of the most consistent forwards in the DStv Premiership.
