Richards Bay terminate Nkanyiso Zungu’s contract

Richards Bay FC have terminated the contract of Orlando Pirates loanee Nkanyiso Zungu just two months left before the end of his loan spell.

The attacking midfielder Nkanyiso Zungu parted ways with the DStv Premiership new boys last week.

According to a source, the former Stellenbosch midfielder was shown the exit door due to “bad lifestyle choices”.

“It’s on disciplinary grounds – bad lifestyle choices, if I may put it. There have been a few incidents where he didn’t behave in a manner the club expects its professionals to behave. He was under the influence of alcohol,” the source said.

Zungu joined the KZN outfit at the beginning of the season after he failed to earn regular minutes in the shirt of Ezimnyama Ngenkani.

During his stay at Richards Bay, he didn’t feature that much also. However, injury woes are thought to have stalled his journey.

The 27-year-old midfielder has 12 appearances in all competitions in which he netted one goal. He scored when the DStv Premiership new boys crashed out of the Nedbank Cup. They were eliminated by Mamelodi Sundowns in February.

WILL PIRATES MAKE USE OF ZUNGU NEXT SEASON?

Now, the Durban-born midfielder will return to his parent club, the Buccaneers. The Soweto giants will have to decide on his future prior to the 2023/24 season.

If Pirates were to keep Zungu, he would have to compete for a spot with the likes of Kabelo Dlamini, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, Fortune Makaringe, Thabang Monare and others.

He would have to put maximum effort to impress Jose Riveiro, who seems to have found his winning team.

With June around the corner, the Soweto giants are set to welcome quite a number of their players from loan.

However, it’s unlikely that all of them will be retained for the upcoming.

They have Boitumelo Radiopane [Cape Town Spurs], Zakhele Lepasa [Lepasa], Tshegofatso Mabasa [Sekhukhune United], Ntsako Makhubela [Golden Arrows], Kwame Peprah [Maritzburg United], Bongani Sam [Swallows], Azola Matrose [Chippa United], Azola Tshobeni [JDR Stars] and Thabiso Sesane [All Stars].
