The key element Jose Riveiro wants his team to master

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has outlined a key element he wants his team to master for what could be a busy 2023/24 season.

The Spaniard is happy with how his men have managed their unforgiving fixtures in all competitions.

They are scheduled to take on arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday in a Nedbank Cup semi-final clash, three days after their DStv Premiership match against Royal AM.

For coach Jose Riveiro the fixture conjestion is a blessing in disguise for his team as they expect a busy 2023/24 season.

The Buccaneers are pretty poised to end the season on second position. This will be an automatic ticket to take part in the busy 2023/24 CAF Champions league edition.

And coach Jose Riveiro wants his players to master the art of playing games in a space of two or three days.

Riveiro is sure that they will have a busy 2023/24 season where they will compete in local and continental competitions.

“Because we are Orlando Pirates, and the next season, hopefully is going to be more busy.

“That’s the mentality that we need. We need to be ready to play every two or three days when the schedule is asking for that.

“It’s obviously not just playing but playing to win every two or three days. Thats our mandate or obligation.

“When you are playing for a big team and you want to find yourself in finals or fighting for titles. Thats the mentality you need to develop.

Riveiro added: “Otherwise the rest of the time, you’ll need to take care of yourself. They like it, they like playing so much. As a coach I don’t mind having three days in between games.

“If we want to play in Africa, this is a good test because it will happen frequently. It’s a good test, mentally and physically.

“Personally, I’m learning alot from this. I am able to see the kind of training that is needed. Once we start the game, we think about what we need to do and the result.”
