TS Galaxy chasing signature of exit-bound AmaZulu FC defender

TS Galaxy have set their sights on the exit-bound AmaZulu FC defender with Usuthu undergoing a squad revamp ahead of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

A few weeks ago, AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu confirmed that the club would embark on a massive clearout following a poor season. He stated then they would let go of 11 players, revealing Lehlohonolo Majoro’s name only at the time.

FARPost has learnt that Usuthu out-of-favour defender Samkelo Mgwazela will also be heading out. And the Rockets are lining up a move for the 23-year-old.

Mgwazela never played a single match for Usuthu in the past campaign. He left the club in the midseason for an assessment at Royal AM, however, Thwihli Thwahla decided against signing him.

The Durban-born defender joined Usuthu in 2020 on a free transfer. He had an impressive run in the second-round of the 2020/21 season under the leadership of Benni McCarthy.

During his whole tenure at Usuthu, Mgwazela played only 33 matches in all competitions.

OTHER RUMOURED EXITS AT USUTHU

Dumisani Zuma is another name that has been linked with AmaZulu exit door after he struggled somewhat to live up to expectations. Having spent just one season with his home province side, the former Kaizer Chiefs winger played 23 matches and scored only one goal in the green shirt.

Meanwhile, according to IOL, Keagan Buchanan will also depart Durban, with the midfielder looking for opportunities both “locally and in Asia”.

Others are Sphesihle Maduna who’s been linked with Kaizer Chiefs, Gabadinho Mhango, Veli Mothwa, Mxolisi Kunene and Rally Bwalya.

AmaZulu recently appointed a new coach Pablo Franco Martin on a 36-month-long deal. The Spanish mentor is expected to arrive in the country before the end of this week. FARPost also exclusively revealed that Siboniso ‘Nini’ Vilakazi will be the second assistant coach. Meanwhile, Martin will arrive with the yet-to-be-revealed first assistant coach.
