Orlando Pirates appoint new conditioning coach

Orlando Pirates have confirmed the appointment of Helmi Gueldich as the club’s new conditioning coach.

He joins the Buccaneers from Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC, where he worked alongside the ex-Kaizer Chiefs coach target Nasreddine Nabi

Gueldich comes highly rated as he holds a Ph.D. in Exercise Science. The Soweto giants believe that his extensive experience and background will be a valuable asset to the Sea Robbers in the new season.

The former Yanga strength and conditioning coach will work closely with Michel Bellver at the club.

The duo is expected to form a dynamic partnership that will take Jose Riveiro’s technical team to “new heights.”

“This appointment couldn’t come at a more crucial time, as the Buccaneers are gearing up to compete in five challenging competitions this season.

Riveiro’s side had a fantastic 2022/23 season, having won the MTN8 and the Nedbank Cup and finished second in the SA top flight.

However, Pirates started the new DStv Premiership season on the wrong foot, having suffered a 1-0 defeat to Stellenbosch FC.

But, Bucs redeemed themselves as they thrashed Royal AM 4-2 in a league match this past Tuesday at Orlando Stadium.

Pirates are currently occupying the sixth position on the DStv Premiership log standings with three points from two games.

The side’s next assignment will be against Babina Noko in the MTN8 quarter-final clash on Saturday, 12 August 2023.
