Hlompho Kekana weighs in on Sundowns strikers’ injuries crisis

Former Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana has weighed in on the current Masandawana strikers’ injuries crisis.

This comes after Bafana Ba Style are in desperate need of a goalscorer, as their forwards have succumbed to injuries.

The side recently loaned their strikers Thabiso Kutumela and Etiosa Ighodaro to Cape Town City and SuperSport United respectively.

Meanwhile, the club sold Cassius Mailula to Toronto FC in the Major League Soccer [MLS], whereas the Ethiopian goalscorer Abbubeker Nasir has also been on the sidelines due to an ankle injury.

On the other hand, Peter Shalulile is also out nursing his hamstring injury.

HLOMPHO KEKANA: ‘SUNDOWNS DON’T RELY ON STRIKERS TO SCORE GOALS’

Kekana reckons that Masandawana doesn’t rely on strikers to score goals for them despite the club’s strikers’ injuries crisis.

“Well, what I know about Sundowns is that they don’t rely on strikers to score goals for them,” Kekana told FARPost

“This is a team that has got a structure of making sure every individual that puts on the jersey knows the roles that they will play.

“And of course, we are happy that Cassius [Mailula] went overseas and we need more of these youngsters to go and play overseas.

“As a result, our national team gets exposed to such experience of these players.”

KEKANA ON SUNDOWNS STRIKERS’ INJURY CRISIS

The ex-Bafana Bafana star went on to reveal how the injury crisis will give the technical a hard time on how “juggle ” around their starting line-up.

“So, with the injuries, it gives the technical team serious homework on how to juggle the line-up.

“But not only that but I think it should be a concern how they should approach this season considering the number of injuries that are happening in their team,” he added.

“However, I still believe that Sundowns have got enough players to make sure they win matches for them. It’s just unfortunate for the ones who are injured.

“I just wish they recover quickly because the calendar of Mamelodi Sundowns stretches each time they win. They will need everybody this time around because there is an African tournament they will be participating in soon.”
