Nomvethe on Sithebe: ‘He needs to know that Chiefs are a big team’

Former Bafana Bafana striker Siyabonga Nomvethe says Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe ‘needs to understand that Chiefs are a big team’.

‘Bhele’ knows Sithebe well from their time together at AmaZulu FC and is convinced that the Newcastle-born player is AmaKhosi material.

However, he insists the 30-year-old must understand the difference between his former team AmaZulu and AmaKhosi.

Sithebe joined Chiefs at the start of last season from AmaZulu with lots of expectations.

But he has failed to hit the heights he displayed at Usuthu that attracted the Soweto giants to sign him.

This season, Sithebe has started one league match against Mamelodi Sundowns on 9 August.

Sithebe is fighting for his position with the likes of Edson Castillo, Mduduzi Mdantsane, and Yusuf Maart, whom their head coach Molefi Ntseki prefers in the midfield.

WHY SITHEBE NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THAT CHIEFS ARE A BIG TEAM

“I think Sithebe needs to know that Chiefs are a big team in the country and Africa,” Nomvethe told FARPost. The legendary forward played for Chiefs for three years before he was sold to Italian side Udinese.

“When I joined Chiefs from African Wanderers, I knew that I had to work harder than before. Chiefs are a big team with fans all over the country and in Africa.

“I think Sithebe needs to do the same. You are expected to do well every time you get a chance to play. Their fans expect nothing but the best all the time.

“Sithebe is a quality player and needs to work hard and understand that he is now playing for a bigger team.

“I’m sure Ntseki will give him a chance again if he works hard and focuses on his football career. Chiefs will always sign quality players, and the competition will always be there. I believe in him, and I was happy for him to sign with a bigger team like Chiefs.”
