The Glamour Boys seemingly believe the past heroes can share their experience and winning mentality with the current generation as the club that was once known as the ‘Cup Kings’ of SA football last tasted silverware back in 2015.

“There’s space for them [legends at Chiefs],” said Mendu, who wore the famous Gold and Black colours in the early 2000s and won two league titles.

“They [Kaizer Chiefs] are trying to form a committee of legends, from the class of 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s so that we can have our input because we all love the club.

“We all want the glory days to be back, so that’s what they [club] are doing right now.”

Chiefs legends gathered on Thursday at FNB Stadium to celebrate the induction of Dr Kaizer Motaung into the SA Hall of Fame.

The SA Hall of Fame luncheon was attended by legends such as ex-captain Cyril Nzama, Brian Baloyi, Arthur Zwane, Abel Shongwe, Pollen Ndlanya, William Shongwe, and Jabu Mahlangu [Pule].

However, Mendu couldn’t attend as he is currently enrolled in the CAF A License coaching course, ongoing at the SAFA house.

Former Chiefs Star MENDU Sheds Light on Path to Success

The former Amakhosi star offered his insights on what is required for the club to achieve success.

“A team needs to have values and a philosophy,” he said. “A coach needs to come in and understand that a club plays in a certain way, not come with his own philosophy.

“There’s a philosophy of a club, why do you have it? Because there is a track record that it worked for you. This is one of the top teams in Africa.

“But what is happening now at Chiefs is that every coach that comes, comes with his own things in terms of philosophy: playing style.”
