Namibian International defender reflects on great PSL milestone
Namibian vice-captain Ananias Junior Gebhardt has achieved a great milestone at Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC.
Gebhardt arrived at Baroka during the 2018/19 season while they were still campaigning in the DStv Premiership. The 35-year-old was recently named captain of the side for the current season.
During the club’s Nedbank Cup fixture against La Masia last week, Gebhardt played his 150th PSL game for the club. The most games by any player at the club since their promotion in 2016.
He was presented with a special jersey by club Chairman Khurishi Mphahlele before their League clash against the University of Pretoria this past weekend.
RECOGNITION FOR ANANIAS GEBHARDT AFTER REACHING GREAT MILESTONE
“It’s been an amazing journey, I can only thank God for that and the club has been good to me,” said Gebhardt.
“I am a service provider and I have been doing what I have been asked to do. That is to play football and by all means, always want to be professional when it comes to that. So a lot of highs and obviously lows because that’s how life is.”
WHAT THE NAMIBIAN DEFENDER ACHIEVED AT BAROKA FC
“We won the Telkom Knockout and that’s the high that I will always be grateful for the players and the technical staff,” added Gebhardt.
“Obviously also ending 10th which was the highest for the club in the top flight and I cherish all those good moments,” he said.
“I will forever cherish them for the rest of my life and it’s been good. You can only thank god for that”
“Obviously when you come in and you are a new player and you are coming into a new club the aim is to keep playing as many games as you can. So reaching 150 is a milestone. Yes, there were injuries but then I am grateful for everything.”
