Michael Nkambule’s brutal verdict on Kaizer Chiefs’ Jasond Gonzalez
Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Michael Nkambule has delivered a brutal verdict on Kaizer Chiefs’ Colombian striker, Jasond Gonzalez.
Gonzalez joined Amakhosi in August this year on a one-year loan deal from the Bolivian Primera División side, Real Santa Cruz.
Joining Chiefs as a direct replacement for Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, who was just released at that time, Gonzalez appeared to have promising credentials after an impressive season in Colombia.
The 24-year-old striker had scored eight goals and assisted once for Cruz in 17 appearances in all competitions in the second half of the 2022/2023 season. However, Gonzalez’s poor start and form at Chiefs has become a significant source of concern for some of the club’s fans and pundits as he has been struggling in front of goal.
So far, he has not lived up to expectations, as he’s yet to find the net for the DStv Premiership giants in the eight matches he has played in.
At the Glamour Boys, the striker is battling against Christian Saile, Ashley du Preez, Ranga Chivaviro and the young Wandile Duba for a starting berth.
Nkambule Drops Hammer on Gonzalez
In an interview with FARPost, the ex-Chiefs star, Nkambule did not hold back as he unleashed a volley of criticism aimed squarely at the Colombian’s goal-less boots.
“For me, honestly, Gonzalez is not a Kaizer Chiefs player. I saw him playing most recently. I think he is overrated,” said Nkambule.
“One thing you should think about him is that, if he was good, teams could have signed him straight away instead of taking him on loan.
“How come people discuss a player, call you a good player, and then you go to a big club on loan, especially while you are a South American? No, there is a problem.
“I don’t think he should stay with Chiefs. Maybe they must return him back since he’s on loan.”
Gonzalez will be looking to turn things around, should he make it to the match day squad when Chiefs welcome Richards Bay on Saturday, 23 at FNB Stadium.
