Lorch pours out his heart to Pirates in farewell message
Thembinkosi Lorch has penned an emotional message to Orlando Pirates, pouring his heart out after his high-profile move to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Lorch completed a deadline-day switch to Sundowns during the just-ended January transfer window ahead of the second round of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.
His departure for Sundowns on Friday, 26 January, sent shockwaves through the SA football scene, prompting Lorch to address his feelings and memories through a statement.
Lorch brought to an end his eight-season stay with the Buccaneers after joining the club in 2015 from Maluti FET College. He went out on two loan spells loan with Cape Town All Stars and Chippa United before making his debut for Pirates during the 2016/17 campaign.
The Bafana Bafana international established himself as a fan-favourite at Pirates with his impressive performances. Lorch made 176 appearances for the Soweto giants in all competitions, scoring 34 goals and making 30 assists while winning three MTN8 trophies and one Nedbank Cup trophy.
LORCH BIDS FAREWELL TO ORLANDO PIRATES
The 2019 PSL Footballer of the Season took to social media to bid farewell to Pirates as he started a new chapter with Masandawana.
Lorch reminisces about key moments, acknowledges the contributions of individuals and the club as a whole, and looks ahead to the new chapter he is embarking on at Sundowns.
“It is with a mix of emotions that I announce my departure from Orlando Pirates FC,” Lorch said on his official Instagram account. “My time has been filled with unforgettable memories, personal growth, and the chance to play alongside very talented football players.
“I extend my deepest appreciation to the chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza, for providing me with the opportunity to play for a club that has so much history and for all the support during the difficult times in my life.
“Thank you to coach Jose Riveiro for his belief in me, the former and current coaches and the staff, the entire management team, and my teammates for all the memories we have built together.
“Most importantly, thank you to the passionate Buccaneers who have been my source of inspiration. Your loyalty and unwavering support have fueled my journey, and it has been an honour to wear the iconic Buccaneer jersey.
“I’m looking forward to this next chapter of my career with Mamelodi Sundowns, and I will do my best to support my teammates and contribute towards the club’s success.
“Thank you to the chairman of Mamelodi Sundowns, the management team, coach Rulani [Mokwena], and his successful technical team for having confidence in me joining this prestigious team.”
