Richards Bay FC promote promising quartet

Richards Bay FC have continued to bolster their squad ahead of the second half of the PSL season after they announced the promotion of four promising young players from the DStv Diski Challenge.

The four players are namely; Ntlonelo Bomelo [striker], Thandoluhle Gazu [central midfielder], Siphesihle Buthelezi [attacking midfielder] and Sanele Zulu [centre-back].

The club announced on Thursday, 1 February, via their official social media accounts that the academy graduates were all handed long-term contracts, five years with the senior team.

Bomelo, Gazu, Buthelezi and Zulu will work under coach Vusimuzi Vilakazi. They will be aiming to challenge for a place in the starting line-up against some experienced players in the team.

The youngsters may be handed their debut when the DStv Premiership resumes in mid-February. This will be after the conclusion of the ongoing 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

Richards Bay’s first test in the second half of the season will be on the road against league returnees Polokwane City FC. The match will be played on Wednesday, 14 February, at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

In the January transfer window, the Rich Natal Boys were not that busy in the market. They brought in Malawian centre-forward Khuda Ike Myaba on a short-term basis. The aim is to have him assist the team in attack.

The inability to score goals has been the club’s weakness since the beginning of the season as they have only netted 13 goals.

The KZN side has been struggling for form and consistency since the start of the season. After 16 matches played, they find themselves occupying 15th place in the relegation zone.

The Richards Bay-based outfit has managed to accumulate only 13 points. This is after they have registered three wins and four draws and suffered nine defeats.
