Steve Komphela back at Golden Arrows

The familiar face of Steve Komphela is back at Lamontville Golden Arrows, as the club announced his return as head coach on Thursday.

Komphela takes over the coaching reins following the club’s poor run of form under head coach Mabhuti Khenyeza.

The KZN side, steered by Khenyeza, has found itself in a rut. They’ve endured a gruelling streak of 11 consecutive defeats across all competitions, with their last win secured back in October 2023 against Kaizer Chiefs in a DStv Premiership encounter.

Arrows are currently 12th on the log with 23 points from 19 matches. This is despite an excellent start to the season which saw them reach second position.

“Lamontville Golden Arrows welcomes back Coach Steve Komphela, who is no stranger to the club’s values and culture,” the club announced.

“We look forward to his knowledge and guidance as we seek to finish the season strong. Welcome back, Steve.”

MABHUTI KHENYEZA DEMOTED TO ASSISTANT ROLE IN LATEST COACHING CHANGES?

The latest developments could see Khenyeza return back to his role as an assistant coach.

The 56-year-old is no stranger to the Arrows side. This is his second stint at “Abafana Bes’thende” after being in charge during the 2019/20 season. During that season, Arrows finished 12th before Komphela moved on to join Mamelodi Sundowns. He went on to spend three seasons at “Masandawana” before his move to Moroka Swallows at the beginning of the current season.

His first task will be a clash away to Polokwane City on Sunday, 10 March. Despite the recent poor form, Arrows have not struggled to score goals but their downfall has been conceding. They have scored 20 and are number six in terms of the scoring charts. But their downfall has been the 26 goals conceded in the 19 matches.
