Nwabali addresses transfer links with QPR and Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq

Chippa United and Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has spoken out about the transfer links with Queens Park Rangers and Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq.

The 27-year-old entered the Africa Cup of Nations as a non-established name in a squad with well-known names. However, he was an integral part of his country’s journey to the final.

He finished the tournament with four clean sheets and four goals conceded. However, he was beaten to the Golden Glove by Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams who came out with five clean sheets and only conceded three goals.

In the semi-final against Bafana, Nwabali was Super Eagles’ hero, saving two penalties to send his side to their first final since 2013.

Last month, football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Queens Park Rangers and Saudi’s Al-Ettifaq had enquired about the Chilli Boys shot-stopper.

Nwabali says he hasn’t been told anything yet by the club or his representatives regarding interests from the above-mentioned clubs.

“You see, to be honest, I’ve never seen anything on my table ever since AFCON,” Nwabali told FARPost.

“Maybe those clubs might have spoken to my team or my manager. But at this point, we can’t do anything. And they can’t approach me because it would be unprofessional. They must go to my club or my manager.

“So I don’t know if there’s something on the table maybe waiting for towards summer or transfer window. You know most clubs always do this. When they show interest, you’re opening the way to some other clubs.

“So, some people always keep it a secret, and when they get you, they get you once. For now, I know nothing.”

Moreover, the reports that emanated before the continental showpiece in Ivory Coast, suggested that the Belgian club Royal Union Saint-Gilloise were also interested in the former Enyimba goalie.
