VTM FC coach on SA trio’s impact at the club

VTM FC coach Reuben Chikoti has detailed the impact of the South African trio on the Botswana Premier League side.

The side currently sit eighth on Botswana’s top-flight table with 33 points from 27 outings. Chikoti reckons that the influence and performances of the three South African footballers in VTM colours have been phenomenal, as seen by their impact on this campaign.

The three players in question are the former Highlands Park striker Lucky Mokoena and the ex-Orlando Pirates duo of Rooi Mahamutsa and Sifiso Myeni, who play as defender and midfielder respectively.

Mokoena, 34, Mahamutsa, 42, and Myeni, 35, have put in some decent displays for VTM to make sure the side remains competitive in the Botswana Premier League, having secured their promotion to the top flight last year June.

REUBEN CHIKOTI ON SA TRIO’S IMPORTANCE

The Zambian mentor revealed that the three senior players from South Africa have brought “stability and professionalism” to his side. He went on to state that their experience and help have come in handy to make his job easier.

“You know, like I mentioned, the three South Africans have brought stability to this club,” said Chikoti.

“They have also brought professionalism to this team. Where we are, for us to capture the points that we have now is because of their input.

“Me, alone, I cannot manage. But with the help of those senior players and my technical staff, at least we can be able to come up with such, and at the same time perform.”

Chikoti continued: “And looking at the age as well, it’s all about basics. When you reach 38 [years] you need basics, you control and pass. The team has been winning in the past four games in a row. We have been winning with 3-1 scorelines.”

The trio will be hoping to finish the season on a high and help the Botswana side end the campaign in a better position on the log standings.
