AmaTuks and Baroka share spoils as promotion chase heats up
AmaTuks and Baroka FC shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw in the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs at the Global Stadium in Limpopo on Wednesday.
Baroka welcomed AmaTuks at the Global Stadium as they chase their first win in the PSL playoffs.
The Limpopo-based side lost their first match against fellow Motsepe Foundation Championship side AmaTuks at the Tuks Stadium.
After the loss to AmaTuks, the head coach, Dan Malesela, was placed on ‘special leave’ and was replaced by Morgan Mammila. The Administrator-turned coach was fired by Chippa United a few weeks ago before taking over at Baroka.
In his first match in charge of Bakgakga, he played to a goalless draw against Richards Bay FC at Global Stadium last Saturday. Meanwhile, the Natal Rich Boys won their first match of the playoffs against Tuks at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
The match between Baroka and AmaTuks had a slow start, with both sides struggling to create goal-scoring opportunities.
AMATUKS OPENS THE SCORING THROUGH ABRAHAMS
As the first half reached its final stages, AmaTuks scored the opening goal through Delano Abrahams in the 44th minute. The referee blew the half-time whistle with the Tuks leading 1-0.
In the second-half, the Tlisane Motaung-coached team kept dominating and denied Bakgakga any freedom in the final third.
Baroka reached the hour mark in the match without troubling Tuks goalie Edward Maova with a shot on target. Their shot goal on target resulted in a goal after Ananias Gebhardt found the equalising goal in the 70th minute.
The Students and Baroka settled for one point apiece, leaving Richards Bay with an advantage at the summit of the table with four points and a superior goal difference.
