Brandon Truter rejoins former club after Richards Bay departure
Brandon Truter has made a return to Upington City FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship after his recent departure from Betway Premiership side Richards Bay FC.
The well-travelled mentor, who previously held the position of Technical Director [TD] at Upington City, is rejoining the club in a new capacity as head coach.
Truter was shown the exit door at Richards Bay FC after a dismal start to the season, as reported by FARPost a week ago.
The Natal Rich Boyz struggled under his guidance, securing only one win in eight matches in the Betway Premiership. They scored a mere three goals while conceding eight in all competitions. The 2-1 defeat to 10-man Kaizer Chiefs served as the final blow.
In their most recent matches, the KZN Derby against AmaZulu FC and the encounter with SuperSport United, Richards Bay FC saw Ronnie Gabriel assume the role of interim head coach.
While an official announcement regarding Truter’s exit has yet to be made by the club, Richards Bay chairman Jomo Biyela confirmed that they have parted ways with the coach during a recent radio interview.
TRUTER REPLACES NKOSI AS UPINGTON CITY HEAD COACH
Truter wasted no time finding a new job, taking over from Thulani Nkosi as head coach of ‘Bafana Ba Gucci.’
Nkosi stepped down following an eight-match winless streak in the second-tier league. This poor run of poor included five defeats. The 3-1 home defeat to Kruger United on Sunday proved the final nail in the coffin for Nkosi’s tenure.
In a statement, Upington City thanked Nkosi for his dedication and success in building the club.
“Coach Nkosi has been a true ambassador for Upington City FC, and his contributions will never be forgotten. We are grateful for the time he spent with us. We wish him continued success in his coaching career,” the club said on Monday.
“As we bid farewell to coach Nkosi, we are pleased to announce that coach Brandon Truter will take over as the new head coach of Upington City FC, effective immediately. Coach Truter returns to the club, where he previously served as senior coach. His experience and familiarity with the team will be invaluable in guiding the players and staff during this transition period.
“We are delighted to welcome coach Truter back to Upington City FC. His appointment is a significant boost to the team. We are confident that he will lead the team to success.”
Truter’s first challenge will be the crucial Northern Cape Derby against Hungry Lions at the Suzuki Stadium on Friday.
