Cape Town Spurs announce Vasili Manousakis’ replacement
Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town Spurs FC have announced Benson Mhlongo as Vasili Manousakis’ replacement.
Mhlongo’s appointment comes a day after the Urban Warriors cut ties with Manousakis, who is set to reunite with Benni McCarthy in Kenya.
Last Friday’s league match against Highbury FC at Athlone Stadium was Manousakis’ last game at CT Spurs, guiding the side to a 2-1 victory as an assistant to head coach Ernst Middendorp.
As a result, the Cape club is now three points clear from the relegation zone. They are in position 14 with 19 points after 20 games.
The former SA international, Mhlongo, was currently serving as the coordinator and player development manager. This was at the South African Football Players Union [SAFPU]. He was appointed to this role in October 2024.
The 44-year-old retired from playing professional football in 2016. Following his retirement, he has committed himself to coaching. He has had stints with Orlando Pirates as an assistant coach, as well as at Black Leopards and TS Sporting.
