Agent addresses Rulani Mokwena payment claims, clarifies coach’s future

Steven Kapeluschnik, the agent of Wydad Casablanca coach Rulani Mokwena, has addressed claims regarding unpaid wages at the Moroccan giants and clarified the coach’s future.

The agent’s response follows reports that Mokwena, along with his technical director Allan Freese, assistant coach Sinethemba Badela, and goalkeeper trainer Sean Louw, have not been paid for eight months.

Mokwena’s move to Morocco came after he surprisingly jumped ship from Mamelodi Sundowns to Red Castle last June, and took his South African colleagues along for the ride.

However, his time in North Africa has been a struggle, with Wydad AC failing to meet expectations across all competitions. Mokwena’s hopes of silverware were dashed by a recent 1-0 defeat to Moghreb Atlético Tetuán in the Moroccan Throne Cup.

And with RS Berkane already crowned league champions, Mokwena can only salvage the campaign by sealing a second-place finish for CAF Champions League qualification, a feat Wydad missed last season.

In his 32 matches in charge, Mokwena has overseen 13 wins, 12 draws, and seven losses. He has boldly stated his readiness to accept a potential dismissal or resign rather than change his style of play. In addition, Mokwena also claimed that certain figures within Wydad and among the fanbase are pushing for his departure.

Mokwena’s agent, Kapeluschnick, confirmed that his client will leave Wydad at the end of the season, stating it will be a respectful exit.

“I’ve flown to Morocco to meet with the club and president Hicham Ait Menna regarding the future of Rulani and his technical team,” Kapeluschnick said as quoted by Hollywoodbets Sports.

“It was agreed that no matter the outcome of the remaining matches, the two parties have made a commitment that Rulani will be the coach until the end of the season; thereafter, he will respectfully part ways with the club.”

Meanwhile Kapeluschnick also revealed that while Mokwena and his technical team received all their owed payments by February, there were still other outstanding financial obligations.
