Teko Modise reveals missed chance he wishes for Rele Mofokeng

Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng in action

Former South African football star Teko Modise has disclosed a career opportunity that eluded him that he now wishes for Orlando Pirates youngster Relebohile Mofokeng.

Mofokengโ€™s rise in football has been nothing short of phenomenal, having made his professional debut towards the end of the 2022/23 season.

He’s become a vital cog for the Buccaneers, showing immense growth over the past two seasons. His contributions have been significant, with Mofokeng scoring 18 goals and providing 22 assists in 89 appearances so far for the Sea Robbers.

He’s also solidified his position as a key player for Bafana Bafana, consistently receiving call-ups from national team head coach Hugo Broos.

Modise, who also turned out for Pirates, expressed his sincere wish that Mofokeng gets the chance to move abroad while he’s still young.

โ€˜The Navigatorโ€™, as Modise is well-known, was unable to make this significant international career step despite being highly sought after by multiple clubs overseas, especially during his stint at Pirates.

MODISE ON RELE MOFOKENG – I WISH IT HAPPENS FOR THE BOYโ€™

โ€œWhen it comes to Rele, itโ€™s very difficult for Orlando Pirates to sell, especially when it comes to top players,โ€ Modise told FARPost.

โ€œThe last time they had a player who was exciting like that was [Thembinkosi] Lorch. Yes, sometimes, as South African fans, we want to see the youngsters go further abroad and do great things.

โ€œI just wish that happens for him sooner rather than later so that he becomes a better player. The better Rele, the better the national team will be, cause at some point, heโ€™s going to be the superstar of the national team.

โ€œI strongly believe that Orlando Pirates know what they have. I just hope that it happens for the boy, I so wish that it happens for the boy.

โ€œIt will not only improve his life but also his family. He must play the UEFA Champions League, cause I think if he gets to be in that type of position, Iโ€™ll be more proud because he would have gotten the opportunities that I never had.

โ€œIโ€™m rallying that he goes [overseas] because it would be great to see the youngster that weโ€™ve all seen from the DDC to the PSL to actually go overseas. That would be great.โ€
