La Masia FC have been crowned the SAFA Gauteng ABC Motsepe League overall champions following their hard-fought 3-2 victory over Dube Continental over the weekend.
The showdown between Dube Continental and the former PSL side, La Masia, took place at the Nike Centre in Soweto on Saturday afternoon.
The victory ensured that La Masia return to the national stage [SAFA ABC Motsepe National Playoffs] with the hope of regaining professional status once again.
La Masia finished at the summit of the log standings with 69 points from 34 matches. The Westbury-based side ended the campaign just a single point ahead of the second-placed Free Agents FC.
As a result, La Masia will now represent Gauteng in the upcoming ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs scheduled for June. SAFA is expected to announce the host province for the playoffs in due course.
While La Masia celebrated, the result confirmed Dube Continental’s relegation to the Regional League, having finished the campaign on position 17 with 31 points, and will go down alongside Leruma United, who are placed at the bottom [18th position] of the table with a mere eight points after a challenging season.
UMVOTI FC TO FACE MKHAMBATHI FC IN KZN DECIDER
Shifting focus to the KwaZulu-Natal ABC Motsepe League, the stage is set for a provincial decider between Umvoti FC and Mkhambathi FC.
Umvoti secured the top spot in Stream A, amassing 59 points from 22 matches. This comes after their 4-0 thrashing of Umzinto United on Saturday. Meanwhile, Mkhambathi emerged as winners of Stream B after collecting 55 points from 22 games. Their spot in the decider was confirmed following a comfortable 3-0 victory over Young Elephants on the very same day.
The winner of the clash between Umvoti and Mkhambathi will join La Masia, FC Ravens and Mangaung Unite in the National Playoffs, where two spots in the Motsepe Foundation Championship will be up for grabs.
