Kaizer Chiefs star Thabo Cele made a bullish statement about the title race as Amakhosi are preparing to face Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday night.
Chiefs will travel to Pretoria to lock horns with log leaders Sundowns, who are chasing their ninth successive league title. The Chloorkop-based outfit is in a fierce race with Orlando Pirates for the league honours in the 2025/26 season.
The Glamour Boys will face a confident Sundowns, who are fresh from claiming back-to-back league wins against Polokwane City FC. Last Sunday, Downs defeated Rise and Shine 3-0 at home, having also beaten them 1-0 at Seshego Stadium last Wednesday.
After collecting maximum points at City, Sundowns moved five points clear at the summit of the league table ahead of second-placed Pirates. Masandawana have accumulated 64 points in 27 games, while the Sea Robbers are on 59 points with one game in hand.
WHAT THABO CELE SAID ABOUT THE TITLE RACE

The Tshwane giants are gunning for three points against Chiefs to move close to sealing the record ninth league title in a row; however, Thabo Cele is plotting a shake-up, revealing their eagerness to ‘spoil the party’.
The Naturena-based side is also fighting for maximum points that will help them finish third on the log and qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup.
“If you look at the recent history, the team [Sundowns] has been dominating in terms of winning the trophies, especially the league,” Thabo Cele told the Chiefs media.
“So they are going to want to [win], now they have someone they are competing with for the league, which is our rival, Orlando Pirates, and we are also coming closer step by step. Things are interesting for South African football at the moment. Of course, they are going to want to clinch this title again, but we might as well spoil the party for them because we are also on our journey; these are games we want to win.”
