Orlando Pirates boss Abdeslam Ouaddou has delivered a glowing verdict on Oswin Appollis, labelling him a “fantastic player” after the star winger scooped two monthly accolades for April.

Appollis was crowned the Player of the Month while his beautiful strike against AmaZulu FC was voted as the Goal of the Month. Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso was named as the Coach of the Month for the third time in a row as he remains on course to guide the Brazilians to a ninth consecutive league title.

During the month of April, Appollis managed to score four goals in as many games while also chipping in with an assist to cap a fine month. He overshadowed his teammate Relebohile Mofokeng, who, during that period, had three goals and two assists.

The Player of the Month gong remains in the Pirates camp in 2026 after Mofokeng claimed the January/February, as well as the March one. It was the first time for Appollis to clinch this award this season.

Ouaddou has credited Appollis’ recognition to the team effort, drawing in the likes of Mofokeng, Patrick Maswanganyi and Adre de Jong in explaining his team’s improvement in the final third.

“I like to speak about the collective project. For me, all the time, it’s the most important because Appollis is shining among the collective, through his teammates,” said Ouaddou.

“I cannot avoid or forget to say that he is a fantastic player, he brings something special in the team technically, in terms of finishing in the last third. He is somebody who has creativity, which is important in the team.

“Like the game can be closed and you can put all your plans that you have that you can imagine, but sometimes you need these kind of players, like Rele, Appollis, like Tito [Maswanganyi], Andre de Jong as well. These kind of players can bring you some creativity in the last third.”
