Betway Premiership side Stellenbosch FC are on the verge of signing experienced midfielder Tlakusani Mthethwa for the upcoming season, FARPost has established.

Mthethwa is currently a free agent after parting ways with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit Richards Bay FC. This comes after his contract with the club officially expired on June 30, 2026.

As previously reported by this publication, the Natal Rich Boyz decided against offering the veteran midfielder a new deal, opening the door for his exit.

The central midfielder spent the past two seasons with the KZN side. He initially joined the team in July 2024 from the now-defunct Moroka Swallows, who sold their top-flight status to Marumo Gallants.

During his two-year stay at Richards Bay, Mthethwa was a regular starter, making 50 appearances across all competitions and netting one goal.

TLAKUSANI MTHETHWA UNDERGOES MEDICAL AT STELLENBOSCH FC

FARPost can reveal that Mthethwa is now set to be unveiled by the Cape Winelands-based outfit in the coming days after completing his medical examination and finalising personal terms.

The 33-year-old underwent his medical assessment at the Gavin Hunt-led side on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

Mthethwa’s imminent arrival will add much-needed depth and top-flight experience to the Stellies midfield options as they look to improve from last campaign’s performance.

So far, the Western Cape side has already been active in the transfer market, securing the signatures of Thabiso Lebitso and Sinoxolo Kwayiba from Orlando Pirates and Chippa United, respectively.

Lebitso and Kwayiba joined Stellies on permanent deals as the new season is fast approaching.

Stellenbosch finished the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season in ninth place with 37 points after 30 games.

The mid-table finish marked a significant disappointment for the squad, especially after securing back-to-back third-place finishes in the previous two campaigns.
