Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town City FC have bolstered their squad ahead of the new season with the acquisition of talented winger Mfundo Thikazi.
The Citizens confirmed the arrival of the former Richards Bay FC and Royal AM star on Monday morning as they prepare for another campaign in the South African second tier.
Thikazi joins the Cape outfit from Casric Stars, a club he signed for in January this year following his departure from the Natal Rich Boyz.
The 27-year-old’s experience is expected to add the much-needed value to the club’s attacking options. His creative spark could prove pivotal for Cape Town City, as they aim to challenge for automatic promotion back to the Betway Premiership.
CAPE TOWN CITY FC’S STATEMENT ON MFUNDO THIKAZI’S ARRIVAL
The club expressed their excitement after finalising the winger’s deal, welcoming him with open arms.
“Cape Town City is pleased to announce the signing of Mfundo Thikazi. He joins the Citizens ahead of the new season. Let’s make it special, Mfundo,” the club stated.
Thikazi becomes the club’s fifth official signing in the current transfer window. The side has already acquired the services of defender Parsley Fielies, Bolivian defender Marcelo Suárez, former Bafana Bafana international Thabang Monare, and Dutch midfielder Rai Vloet.

While the Mother City-based side is busy reinforcing its squad, they have also cut ties with several players to make room for the new arrivals.
Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Keagan Dolly, defender Njabulo Ngcobo, Bosnian forward Dzenan Zajmovic, left-back Sifiso Ngobeni, and midfielder Siphamandla Dondolo have all parted ways with the club.
In addition, the club’s star attacker, Jaedin Rhodes, has completed a European move. He put pen to paper with Austrian Bundesliga outfit SV Ried.
A LOOK BACK AT CAPE TOWN CITY’S BITTERSWEET 2025/26 CAMPAIGN
Cape Town City are desperate to correct the wrongs of the 2025/26 season. The club suffered late heartbreak in their quest to return to the South African top flight.
The Citizens finished as runners-up in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, collecting 54 points from their 30 league outings. They were beaten to the automatic Betway Premiership promotion spot by Kruger United. The Mpumalanga club finished at the summit of the log standings with 62 points.
The club were handed a second lifeline via the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs. However, they finished at the bottom of the three-team mini-log. They only managed to accumulate four points from their four playoff matches, ultimately failing to secure the top-flight ticket.
