Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung has unpacked the inspiration and philosophy behind the Soweto giants’ new 2026/27 home and away Kappa kits.

The Soweto giants unveiled their new jerseys for the upcoming term on Thursday, continuing their relationship with the Italian sports apparel manufacturer Kappa. Having severed ties with sportswear giant Nike, the Chiefs now enter their third year with Kappa, who were their technical sponsor in the 1990s.

They have stuck with the traditional yellow shirts for their home games, and according to the club, the design is influenced by the Zulu culture. The away fit is black, with gold and grey zigzag trimmings on the chest, representing a lion’s mane.

According to the Soweto giants, the jerseys are made from recycled material and can withstand rough climatic conditions.

In explaining the inspiration behind the new kits, Chiefs have been bold in stating that “the new designs continue to blend tradition, innovation and style.”

“Like we have done over the past three seasons, we have worked hard to come up with glamorous and stylish designs that manifest the spirit of our mantra for the season, The Kingdom Rises, intended to make our players and supporters stand out and be noticed, whether at the stadium or elsewhere,” said Motaung.

“The away jersey roars with pride and is one very strong jersey. We thank Kappa again for their partnership and look forward to another season of success on and off the field.”

Meanwhile, in the upcoming season, the Soweto giants will be bidding to lift the Betway Premiership title for the first time since the 2014/15 campaign. Leading their quest for glory is new coach Fernando da Cruz, who took over from co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef.

The Frenchman inherits a squad that laid a foundation he can build on after they finished third on the Premiership table last season. That earned them the right to play in the CAF Confederation Cup.
