Mamelodi Sundowns face a tough goalkeeping dilemma ahead of the 2026/27 season following the return of Ricardo Goss and Ismail Watenga from their respective loan spells.
The Brazilians returned to training a fortnight ago to begin pre-season preparations for a fascinating upcoming campaign.
Sundowns are looking to defend their CAF Champions League title and wrestle the Betway Premiership title from Orlando Pirates after losing the trophy last season.
Before failing to win the league in the previous season, Masandawana had won the Premiership for the past eight successive campaigns.
With the Tshwane giants gunning for a clean sweep of trophies, they have welcomed back several returning loanees looking to compete for places in the starting line-up.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS STUCK WITH SEVEN GOALKEEPERS AHEAD OF THE NEW SEASON
Amongst the notable names back from loan, training with Sundowns are Bafana Bafana shot-stopper Ricardo Goss and Ugandan international Ismail Watenga. The return of the two goal-minders leaves head coach Miguel Cardoso with a significant headache in the goalkeeping department ahead of the new season.
Watenga spent the last season on loan at AmaTuks in the Motsepe Foundation Championship while Goss was in the colours of Siwelele FC.
As it stands, the Tshwane giants have Ronwen Williams, Reyaad Pieterse, Jody February, Denis Onyango, Nqobani Biyela, Watenga, and Goss in their books.
With Sundowns currently sitting on seven goalkeepers in their squad before the start of the Betway Premiership on the 1st of August 2026, it remains to be seen which goalkeepers will be sent out on loan to continue gaining valuable experience away from the club.
