Former Orlando Pirates winger Neo Mokoena is set to continue his career at AmaZulu FC in the 2026/27 season, FARPost has learnt. Usuthu have moved swiftly to secure the highly rated attacker following his recent departure from the Buccaneers.
The 23-year-old has already linked up with AmaZulu for pre-season and appears to be settling seamlessly into life at the KwaZulu-Natal outfit. A player at the club told FARPost that Mokoena has quickly become part of the group despite only recently arriving.
“It almost feels like he has been here all along,” the player said of the winger’s early impressions at the club.
Mokoena’s move comes just weeks after his departure from Pirates was confirmed, bringing an end to his stint with the Soweto giants only 12 months after he signed a three-year professional contract.
The talented attacker spent the 2025/26 season with Pirates’ feeder side, Pele Pele FC, in the ABC Motsepe League after earning promotion to the club’s senior setup on the back of impressive performances in the DStv Diski Challenge. During the 2024/25 campaign, he also trained with the Buccaneers’ first team and was regarded as one of the club’s brightest young prospects.

The move to Durban presents Mokoena with an opportunity to kickstart the next chapter of his career at a stable and ambitious club. Usuthu finished fourth in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season and have shown a clear commitment to investing in emerging talent.
Rather than focusing on established names, Usuthu appear to be building a youthful squad with significant potential. The club’s recruitment strategy points towards creating an environment where promising players can develop under quality coaching and professional structures.
Head coach Arthur Zwane has already welcomed Omega Mdaka, Khomotjo Lekoloane, Mncedi Vandala, Keenan Phillips, Gape Moralo, Faveur Kouassi and Kenyan striker Moses Shumah to the club.
Meanwhile, Richard Ofori, Sphephelo Majola, Bongani Zungu, Mason Mushore, Thabiso Kutumela, and Elmo Kambindu have all departed.
Blessed with blistering pace, excellent close control and impressive one-on-one ability, Mokoena is capable of operating on either wing or in the No. 10 role behind the striker.
Those who have followed his development closely have drawn comparisons between certain aspects of his game and that of former Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng, particularly his fearlessness when taking on defenders and his composure in possession.
