Determined to hit the ground running in Soweto, newly signed Orlando Pirates midfielder Thapelo Mokobodi has expressed his eager desire to leave his mark following his move from Stellenbosch FC.
The 23-year-old put pen to paper on a three-year deal ahead of the new Betway Premiership campaign, completing a transfer previously reported by FARPost.
The Buccaneers confirmed the arrival of the central midfielder on Wednesday, 29 July 2026 via their official social media platforms.
Mokobodi was one of the standout figures for the Cape Winelands-based outfit during the 2025/26 campaign. He featured in 28 games across all competitions after arriving at Stellies in August 2025.
Before his move to Stellenbosch, his impressive displays in Marumo Gallants colours had caught the eye of the Stellies hierarchy. During the 2024/25 season, he was an important player for Bahlabane Ba Ntwa, making 24 appearances across all competitions before sealing his transfer to the Cape Winelands.

Mokobodi, who is set to link up with the rest of the squad this morning, expressed his delight to have completed his move to the Soweto giants.
“I am pleased to be here and look forward to meeting the rest of the team,” said Mokobodi. “It’s a big opportunity to play for such a club, and I am ready to get going. I would like to make a meaningful contribution to this great institution.”
He has been handed the number 33 jersey by Pirates for the upcoming 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.

ORLANDO PIRATES’ BUSY TRANSFER WINDOW
Mokobodi becomes the latest addition in a busy transfer window for the Buccaneers. Pirates have already completed several key signings to bolster their squad ahead of the new season, as they aim to defend their Betway Premiership, MTN8, and Carling Knockout titles, while also pushing for success in the CAF Champions League.
The new arrivals include Ghampani Lungu, Mthetheleli Mthiyane, Sbangani Zulu, Bohlale Ngwato, Neo Rapoo, Aphiwe Baliti, and Matome Mmolai.
