Chippa United lead race for free agent Ibrahim Bance

Ibrahim Bance in action for Marumo Gallants

Chippa United have emerged as the frontrunners to sign free agent Ibrahim Bance after tabling an offer for the Burkinabe midfielder following his departure from Marumo Gallants.

As reported by FARPost, Bance received his clearance from Gallants this week, allowing him to become a free agent after the club’s attempt to trigger an option to extend his contract failed.

The 25-year-old joined Gallants on a one-year deal ahead of last season, with an option to extend. However, Bance was unwilling to continue amid concerns over welfare issues and pushed for an exit. The contractual dispute meant he did not take part in the club’s pre-season preparations as both parties attempted to resolve the matter.

FARPost has now established that Chippa United have made the first concrete move for the highly-rated midfielder. The Chilli Boys, long-time admirers of Bance, have submitted an offer as they look to bolster their midfield ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.

Sekhukhune United are also weighing up a move and have been monitoring the player’s situation closely. However, Babina Noko are yet to submit a formal offer as they continue assessing their transfer plans.

The Limpopo outfit are well covered in the defensive midfield role, with Siphesihle Mkhize currently occupying the position. Mkhize, 27, has also attracted interest from several clubs during the current transfer window.

ARE KAIZER CHIEFS INTERESTED IN BANCE?

Despite speculation linking Bance with Kaizer Chiefs in recent weeks, FARPost understands Amakhosi have no interest in signing the midfielder at this stage. The Soweto giants recently strengthened that area of the pitch with the arrival of Tanzanian international Adolf Mtasingwa. Last season, Chiefs also utilised Lebo Maboe in a deeper midfield role, despite it not being his natural position.

Bance enjoyed an impressive debut Betway Premiership campaign with Gallants, establishing himself as one of the club’s standout performers. His displays also attracted interest from clubs outside South Africa, with a move abroad remaining his preferred option should a suitable opportunity arise.

For now, however, Chippa United have stolen a march on their domestic rivals and are leading the race to secure the signature of one of the league’s most highly rated free agents.
