Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper and captain Brandon Petersen has praised new signing Langelihle Phili, highlighting the key qualities the youngster brings to the Soweto giants.
The 21-year-old attacker joined the Glamour Boys earlier this month on a permanent transfer from the Betway Premiership side Stellenbosch FC.
During his tenure with the Cape Winelands outfit, the South African youth international amassed 72 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and contributing two assists.
Phili forms part of the ongoing rebuilding process under head coach Fernando Da Cruz during the current transfer window, as he’s among the five new acquisitions he has made thus far.
Amakhosi have already secured the signatures of Renaldo Leaner, Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko, alongside Phili’s former Stellenbosch teammates, Thabo Moloisane and Faiz Abrahams.
In addition, Phili won the Betway Premiership Man of the Match award in his full debut start for Chiefs during their 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United FC at FNB Stadium on Wednesday night.

Speaking during the recent MTN8 launch, Petersen expressed full confidence in the squad’s new arrivals, noting that Phili in particular brings unique qualities to Chiefs’ attacking front.
“I think the signings we have made are phenomenal players. I believe that this is also a great opportunity for them to be part of a great institution like Chiefs,” said Petersen.
“Obviously, there has been much hype around Phili. However, I think he has been doing phenomenally well when he was still at Stellenbosch. He gave us headaches when we played against them.”
Petersen added that the technical staff and senior players must guide the young talent to ensure consistent performances throughout the campaign.
“I think he adds a lot of value upfront for us, you know. His vision, agility, and strength are impressive. Also, his football knowledge at such a young age is remarkable. So, for us, it is important to nurture that and make sure he brings it out week in and week out,” he added.
