The Polokwane Municipality has confirmed that both the Old and New Peter Mokaba Stadiums are fully ready to host competitive fixtures ahead of the upcoming MTN8 semi-final weekend.
Both facilities, situated just a few meters apart, recently underwent their annual off-season pitch rehabilitation in preparation for the 2026/27 domestic campaign. However, unlike in previous seasons, neither venue has hosted a Betway Premiership match since the start of the new term.
The temporary unavailability of the two main arenas forced local top-flight clubs to seek alternative grounds. Polokwane City FC, who traditionally play their home matches at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, have been hosting opponents at the Seshego Stadium. Similarly, Sekhukhune United—who use the 2010 FIFA World Cup venue as their primary home—were also required to move their early league fixtures to Seshego.

With Sekhukhune United drawn against cup holders Orlando Pirates in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-finals, questions emerged over whether the New Peter Mokaba Stadium would be cleared in time. The Premier Soccer League [PSL] has scheduled the first-leg encounters for the weekend of 23 and 24 August.
Speaking to FARPost, Mantlhakho Sebaka, the Manager responsible for Sport and Recreation at the Polokwane Municipality, put those venue concerns to rest. Sebaka revealed that the pitch maintenance is complete and both grounds are cleared for immediate competitive use.
“Both the New and Old Stadiums are ready this weekend to host any competitive match, including international events. The MTN8 is being held on the 22 and 23 August, and all is well,” Sebaka told FARPost.
THREE PSL-STANDARD VENUES
Sebaka also expressed satisfaction with the municipality’s stadium infrastructure, noting that the city was well-equipped to handle the load while pitch rehabilitation took place.
“We are one of the lucky cities to have three Premiership-hosting stadiums. However, Seshego was our third choice and alternative venue complying with PSL standards,” Sebaka added.
With the municipality issuing a full green light, Sekhukhune United are expected to return to the New Peter Mokaba Stadium to host the Buccaneers in their semi-final clash.
