Owen Da Gama breaks silence after unveiling by rival Limpopo clubs

Former Bafana Bafana interim coach Owen Da Gama has set the record straight after being unveiled as technical director by two local rivals in the SAFA Limpopo ABC Motsepe League within just four days.

The 64-year-old tactician has been unattached since parting ways with Botswana Premier League side Black Lions FC last season. As FARPost reported four days ago, the experienced mentor was initially announced by ABC Motsepe League outfit Vondwe XI Bullets.

In a social media statement, Vondwe confirmed that Da Gama had been brought in to oversee the clubโ€™s football structures, working alongside head coach and former Highlands Park midfielder Stanley Kgatla.

Da Gama shares a rich history with Vondwe XI Bullets, having served as their head coach during the 2024/25 campaign prior to his appointment at Betway Premiership side Magesi FC.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, newly promoted ABC FCโ€”who recently earned ABC Motsepe League status via the Limpopo Hollywoodbets promotion playoffsโ€”also unveiled the former Orlando Pirates mentor in the exact same capacity.

The overlapping announcements created widespread confusion across Limpopo football circles, particularly given the intense local rivalry between the two sides. The spectacle of both clubs claiming the signature of the same veteran coach within 96 hours quickly became a major talking point.

OWEN DA GAMA CLARIFIES CONFUSION OVER HIS FUTURE WITH ABC MOTSEPE LEAGUE CLUBS

Speaking directly to FARPost, Da Gama cleared up the misunderstanding and confirmed where his true commitment lies for the upcoming season.

“I did have talks with the Vondwe [XI Bullets] people, but obviously it was not finalised,” Da Gama told FARPost. “I have been waiting for them to come back to me, and it was not finalised, but they prematurely announced on Facebook that I have joined them. In fact, I have spoken to ABC FC, and we have come to an agreement.”

With the administrative confusion now resolved, Da Gama is officially set to lead the technical direction at ABC FC as the newly promoted side prepares for their maiden campaign in the ABC Motsepe League.
