Lerumo Lions FC head coach Tshepo Maphari has provided an update on former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thuso Moleleki following his trial spell at the club.
Moleleki spent the 2025/26 campaign on a season-long loan at Orbit College FC from the Soweto giants in a bid to secure regular playing time.
During his stint at Orbit College, the 26-year-old participated in 13 matches across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
However, it turned out to be a difficult campaign for the Pogiso Makhoye-led side, who suffered automatic relegation on the final day of the Betway Premiership season following a 2-0 defeat to Pirates at Mbombela Stadium.
As a result, Orbit College finished bottom of the Betway Premiership table in 16th place with 24 points from 30 matches.
Ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, Moleleki cut ties with the Buccaneers, making him a free agent on the market.

Speaking to FARPost in an exclusive interview, Maphari opened up on the midfielder’s fitness levels upon arrival and explained why the proposed deal with Moleleki fell through at the last minute.
“Well, with Thuso, remember that it has been a while since he played competitive football and got proper game time. He was really out of shape when he came to train with us,” Maphari told FARPost.
“But he was starting to look good as we really pushed him because he was one of the profile players we needed. However, just when we could conclude the deal, he received an offer from one of the Betway Premiership teams.
“So, he opted to entertain the offer instead of completing the signing with us. We are watching the space closely, but he might be unveiled at one of the Betway Premiership clubs.”
Maphari further revealed that Moleleki approached him directly to seek permission before leaving to pursue the top-flight opportunity.
“He spoke with me on the side to say, ‘Coach, look, there’s this offer that is supposed to happen, so can I entertain it?’ I said it’s okay to entertain it and see what happens. If it does work out for him and he is unveiled, I wish him all the best for the season,” Maphari added.
