Former PSL top goalscorer Rodney Ramagalela has identified three strikers he believes will be the ones to watch during the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
The retired frontman acknowledged South Africa’s ongoing goalscoring struggles but expressed optimism that the new domestic campaign could bring positive developments.
The season officially kicked off on 1 August with league fixtures, followed by the MTN8 quarter-final clashes the following week.
Ramagalela shared the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot award in the 2017/18 season after scoring 11 goals for Polokwane City FC—a tally matched by Percy Tau during his spell with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Ramagalela tipped Sundowns’ Iqraam Rayners, Orlando Pirates forward Yanela Mbuthuma, and Kaizer Chiefs‘ Wandile Duba to make a major impact this term. He believes the trio possesses a distinct combination of technical quality, effective finishing, speed, and a strong work ethic.
Duba has already scored two goals this season, while Rayners and Mbuthuma are both yet to open their accounts for their respective clubs.
“You know, we have been struggling with strikers in South Africa,” Ramagalela told FARPost. “For me, I would want to see Iqraam Rayners playing more for Sundowns and getting those goals, as he has shown his capabilities in the previous seasons.
“One could argue about Yanela Mbuthuma. The boy is playing for Orlando Pirates, which is creating so many chances per game. So, I think he is one player who has to lift his socks and be able to get the ball inside the net because that is what Pirates is playing him for.
“For me, those are the two players that I would love to see scoring goals because if they score goals, it means that the team will win.
“However, not forgetting this young boy, Wandile Duba. He has got what it takes. I think, for me, he just has to continue getting into good positions. He has an eye for goal. The boy is one player I know that if he gets service in the box, he will get goals for Kaizer Chiefs.”
